Project description (Academic Project)
Moroccan Darija Therapy AI is an academic research project that evaluates and improves the performance of fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) for mental-health support conversations in Moroccan Darija. Despite Darija being spoken daily by millions of people, most open LLMs are trained primarily on English/French/Modern Standard Arabic, which creates major gaps in linguistic quality, cultural relevance, and emotional understanding for Moroccan users.
In this Space, I benchmark multiple fine-tuned candidate LLMs on Darija therapeutic dialogue tasks, focusing on:
- Empathy and emotional validation (supportive tone, non-judgmental responses)
- Darija fluency and code-switching (Darija โ Arabic/French mixing)
- Safety and responsible behavior (avoiding harmful advice, encouraging professional support when needed)
- Consistency and helpfulness (staying on-topic, providing structured coping strategies)
The Space provides a reproducible evaluation workflow to compare models across standardized prompts and metrics. The project is strictly designed as a supportive assistant and research benchmark, not a medical device: it includes safety messaging and aims to promote responsible use.
