Error when slecting first item from the dropdownlist

The first item is already selected and when you click on it, it does populate the textbox. Can the first dropdown (dd) item be made non-selected when loaded and only after the user selects the item from the dd it gets active.
Also rather than 1,2 3 -> can u show text like "very negative/positive" or a

as it's easier to read a text or visual cue than a star
- add a placeholder "select an option" . This should handle the error.
