D-ORCA: Dialogue-Centric Optimization for Robust Audio-Visual Captioning

Spoken dialogue is a primary source of information in videos; therefore, accurately identifying who spoke what and when is essential for deep video understanding. We introduce D-ORCA, a dialogue-centric omni-modal large language model optimized for robust audio-visual captioning. We further curate DVD, a large-scale, high-quality bilingual dataset comprising nearly 40,000 multi-party dialogue videos for training and 2000 videos for evaluation in English and Mandarin, addressing a critical gap in the open-source ecosystem. To ensure fine-grained captioning accuracy, we adopt group relative policy optimization with three novel reward functions that assess speaker attribution accuracy, global speech content accuracy, and sentence-level temporal boundary alignment. These rewards are derived from evaluation metrics widely used in speech processing and, to our knowledge, are applied for the first time as reinforcement learning objectives for audio-visual captioning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that D-ORCA substantially outperforms existing open-source models in speaker identification, speech recognition, and temporal grounding. Notably, despite having only 8 billion parameters, D-ORCA achieves performance competitive with Qwen3-Omni across several general-purpose audio-visual understanding benchmarks. Taiwan Safety Benchmark and Breeze Guard: Toward Trustworthy AI for Taiwanese Mandarin

Global safety models exhibit strong performance across widely used benchmarks, yet their training data rarely captures the cultural and linguistic nuances of Taiwanese Mandarin. This limitation results in systematic blind spots when interpreting region-specific risks such as localized financial scams, culturally embedded hate speech, and misinformation patterns. To address these gaps, we introduce TS-Bench (Taiwan Safety Benchmark), a standardized evaluation suite for assessing safety performance in Taiwanese Mandarin. TS-Bench contains 400 human-curated prompts spanning critical domains including financial fraud, medical misinformation, social discrimination, and political manipulation. In parallel, we present Breeze Guard, an 8B safety model derived from Breeze 2, our previously released general-purpose Taiwanese Mandarin LLM with strong cultural grounding from its original pre-training corpus. Breeze Guard is obtained through supervised fine-tuning on a large-scale, human-verified synthesized dataset targeting Taiwan-specific harms. Our central hypothesis is that effective safety detection requires the cultural grounding already present in the base model; safety fine-tuning alone is insufficient to introduce new socio linguistic knowledge from scratch. Empirically, Breeze Guard significantly outperforms the leading 8B general-purpose safety model, Granite Guardian 3.3, on TS-Bench (+0.17 overall F1), with particularly large gains in high-context categories such as scam (+0.66 F1) and financial malpractice (+0.43 F1). While the model shows slightly lower performance on English-centric benchmarks (ToxicChat, AegisSafetyTest), this tradeoff is expected for a regionally specialized safety model optimized for Taiwanese Mandarin. Together, Breeze Guard and TS-Bench establish a new foundation for trustworthy AI deployment in Taiwan.

FireRedASR: Open-Source Industrial-Grade Mandarin Speech Recognition Models from Encoder-Decoder to LLM Integration

We present FireRedASR, a family of large-scale automatic speech recognition (ASR) models for Mandarin, designed to meet diverse requirements in superior performance and optimal efficiency across various applications. FireRedASR comprises two variants: FireRedASR-LLM: Designed to achieve state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance and to enable seamless end-to-end speech interaction. It adopts an Encoder-Adapter-LLM framework leveraging large language model (LLM) capabilities. On public Mandarin benchmarks, FireRedASR-LLM (8.3B parameters) achieves an average Character Error Rate (CER) of 3.05%, surpassing the latest SOTA of 3.33% with an 8.4% relative CER reduction (CERR). It demonstrates superior generalization capability over industrial-grade baselines, achieving 24%-40% CERR in multi-source Mandarin ASR scenarios such as video, live, and intelligent assistant. FireRedASR-AED: Designed to balance high performance and computational efficiency and to serve as an effective speech representation module in LLM-based speech models. It utilizes an Attention-based Encoder-Decoder (AED) architecture. On public Mandarin benchmarks, FireRedASR-AED (1.1B parameters) achieves an average CER of 3.18%, slightly worse than FireRedASR-LLM but still outperforming the latest SOTA model with over 12B parameters. It offers a more compact size, making it suitable for resource-constrained applications. Moreover, both models exhibit competitive results on Chinese dialects and English speech benchmarks and excel in singing lyrics recognition. Speed by Simplicity: A Single-Stream Architecture for Fast Audio-Video Generative Foundation Model

We present daVinci-MagiHuman, an open-source audio-video generative foundation model for human-centric generation. daVinci-MagiHuman jointly generates synchronized video and audio using a single-stream Transformer that processes text, video, and audio within a unified token sequence via self-attention only. This single-stream design avoids the complexity of multi-stream or cross-attention architectures while remaining easy to optimize with standard training and inference infrastructure. The model is particularly strong in human-centric scenarios, producing expressive facial performance, natural speech-expression coordination, realistic body motion, and precise audio-video synchronization. It supports multilingual spoken generation across Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), English, Japanese, Korean, German, and French. For efficient inference, we combine the single-stream backbone with model distillation, latent-space super-resolution, and a Turbo VAE decoder, enabling generation of a 5-second 256p video in 2 seconds on a single H100 GPU. In automatic evaluation, daVinci-MagiHuman achieves the highest visual quality and text alignment among leading open models, along with the lowest word error rate (14.60%) for speech intelligibility. In pairwise human evaluation, it achieves win rates of 80.0% against Ovi 1.1 and 60.9% against LTX 2.3 over 2000 comparisons. We open-source the complete model stack, including the base model, the distilled model, the super-resolution model, and the inference codebase.

Synchronous Bidirectional Learning for Multilingual Lip Reading

Lip reading has received increasing attention in recent years. This paper focuses on the synergy of multilingual lip reading. There are about as many as 7000 languages in the world, which implies that it is impractical to train separate lip reading models with large-scale data for each language. Although each language has its own linguistic and pronunciation rules, the lip movements of all languages share similar patterns due to the common structures of human organs. Based on this idea, we try to explore the synergized learning of multilingual lip reading in this paper, and further propose a synchronous bidirectional learning (SBL) framework for effective synergy of multilingual lip reading. We firstly introduce phonemes as our modeling units for the multilingual setting here. Phonemes are more closely related with the lip movements than the alphabet letters. At the same time, similar phonemes always lead to similar visual patterns no matter which type the target language is. Then, a novel SBL block is proposed to learn the rules for each language in a fill-in-the-blank way. Specifically, the model has to learn to infer the target unit given its bidirectional context, which could represent the composition rules of phonemes for each language. To make the learning process more targeted at each particular language, an extra task of predicting the language identity is introduced in the learning process. Finally, a thorough comparison on LRW (English) and LRW-1000 (Mandarin) is performed, which shows the promising benefits from the synergized learning of different languages and also reports a new state-of-the-art result on both datasets.

HKGAI-V1: Towards Regional Sovereign Large Language Model for Hong Kong

This paper presents the development of HKGAI-V1, a foundational sovereign large language model (LLM), developed as part of an initiative to establish value-aligned AI infrastructure specifically tailored for Hong Kong. Addressing the region's unique multilingual environment (Cantonese, Mandarin, and English), its distinct socio-legal context under the "one country, two systems" framework, and specific local cultural and value considerations, the model is built upon the DeepSeek architecture and systematically aligned with regional norms through a multifaceted full parameter fine-tuning process. It is further integrated with a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system to ensure timely and factually grounded information access. The core contribution lies in the design and implementation of a comprehensive, region-specific AI alignment and safety framework, demonstrated through two key achievements: 1) The successful development of HKGAI-V1 itself - which outper-forms general-purpose models in handling Hong Kong-specific culturally sensitive queries, and embodies a "governance-embedded" approach to digital sovereignty - empowers Hong Kong to exercise control over AI applications in critical sectors including public services, legal systems, and edu-cation. 2) The development of the proprietary Adversarial HK Value Benchmark, a rigorous tool for evaluating model alignment with local ethical and legal stand-ards under challenging conditions. By documenting these achievements, the paper provides not only a technological artifact but also a replicable blueprint for developing advanced, regionally focused AI systems deeply rooted in their local identities.

Drivel-ology: Challenging LLMs with Interpreting Nonsense with Depth

We introduce Drivelology, a unique linguistic phenomenon characterised as "nonsense with depth", utterances that are syntactically coherent yet pragmatically paradoxical, emotionally loaded, or rhetorically subversive. While such expressions may resemble surface-level nonsense, they encode implicit meaning requiring contextual inference, moral reasoning, or emotional interpretation. We find that current large language models (LLMs), despite excelling at many natural language processing (NLP) tasks, consistently fail to grasp the layered semantics of Drivelological text. To investigate this, we construct a small but diverse benchmark dataset of over 1,200 meticulously curated examples, with select instances in English, Mandarin, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Korean. Annotation was especially challenging: each of the examples required careful expert review to verify that it truly reflected Drivelological characteristics. The process involved multiple rounds of discussion and adjudication to address disagreements, highlighting the subtle and subjective nature of the Drivelology. We evaluate a range of LLMs on classification, generation, and reasoning tasks. Our results reveal clear limitations of LLMs: models often confuse Drivelology with shallow nonsense, produce incoherent justifications, or miss the implied rhetorical function altogether. These findings highlight a deeper representational gap in LLMs' pragmatic understanding and challenge the assumption that statistical fluency implies cognitive comprehension. We release our dataset and code to facilitate further research in modelling linguistic depth beyond surface-level coherence.

FireRedASR2S: A State-of-the-Art Industrial-Grade All-in-One Automatic Speech Recognition System

We present FireRedASR2S, a state-of-the-art industrial-grade all-in-one automatic speech recognition (ASR) system. It integrates four modules in a unified pipeline: ASR, Voice Activity Detection (VAD), Spoken Language Identification (LID), and Punctuation Prediction (Punc). All modules achieve SOTA performance on the evaluated benchmarks: FireRedASR2: An ASR module with two variants, FireRedASR2-LLM (8B+ parameters) and FireRedASR2-AED (1B+ parameters), supporting speech and singing transcription for Mandarin, Chinese dialects and accents, English, and code-switching. Compared to FireRedASR, FireRedASR2 delivers improved recognition accuracy and broader dialect and accent coverage. FireRedASR2-LLM achieves 2.89% average CER on 4 public Mandarin benchmarks and 11.55% on 19 public Chinese dialects and accents benchmarks, outperforming competitive baselines including Doubao-ASR, Qwen3-ASR, and Fun-ASR. FireRedVAD: An ultra-lightweight module (0.6M parameters) based on the Deep Feedforward Sequential Memory Network (DFSMN), supporting streaming VAD, non-streaming VAD, and multi-label VAD (mVAD). On the FLEURS-VAD-102 benchmark, it achieves 97.57% frame-level F1 and 99.60% AUC-ROC, outperforming Silero-VAD, TEN-VAD, FunASR-VAD, and WebRTC-VAD. FireRedLID: An Encoder-Decoder LID module supporting 100+ languages and 20+ Chinese dialects and accents. On FLEURS (82 languages), it achieves 97.18% utterance-level accuracy, outperforming Whisper and SpeechBrain. FireRedPunc: A BERT-style punctuation prediction module for Chinese and English. On multi-domain benchmarks, it achieves 78.90% average F1, outperforming FunASR-Punc (62.77%).
