| *** Bug in Hints for Small World *** | |
| 10/23/96 | |
| From private messages from players, I've discovered a problem with the | |
| hints system in my game Small World that I'd like to tell people about. The | |
| game itself works fine, so if you never used hints to finish it, you don't | |
| need to read this. | |
| **** MILD SPOILER SPACE **** | |
| It comes in the very last puzzle. There's a way you can arrange things so | |
| that the hint system says you've solved it, but you haven't. If you get to | |
| a point like that, back up to the very beginning of the puzzle, before | |
| you've done anything with it, and if you still can't figure it out, then | |
| look at the hints. That should start giving you ideas. Below is the exact | |
| circumstances | |
| **** MAJOR SPOILER SPACE **** | |
| Specifically, after you've managed to attach *both* ends of the pipe to the | |
| upper and lower pipes, but if you haven't matched the colors up exactly, it | |
| says "(1/3) Well, there's just one thing left to do to win the game." Oops! | |
| Instead, when you turn the key, you get "You hear a creaking and grinding | |
| sound, but nothing more." You'll see what you're missing if you do what the | |
| above para. tells you and then look at the hints more carefully. Sorry | |
| about the problem. | |
