ANOTHER EARTH, ANOTHER SKY hints
| |
| |
| |
| | |
Another Earth, Another Sky Hint Page
| |
| These hints are in the classic Invisiclues style, which is to say that | |
| they are in question-and-answer format, with the answers leading from | |
| very vague indeed to the flat-out solution. The answers are all hidden | |
| by the magic of HTML text-coloring, so if your default browser | |
| background isn't white, you'll see all the answers... so unless you want | |
| that, you should probably use a white background. To reveal the answers, | |
| highlight the white space under the question a little at a time. The | |
| answers are spaced a few lines apart from each other, so as to help you | |
| avoid accidentally revealing too much. Use the sample question below to | |
| get a sense of how these clues work. | |
Remember, the game is more fun when you figure it out yourself, so I
| highly recommend using these hints only as a last resort, or to learn | |
| more after you've finished the game. On several of the tougher puzzles, | |
| the game will try to take note if you're struggling and offer a bit | |
| of guidance, so it pays to hammer away for a while rather than turning | |
| immediately to the hint file. Also, keep in mind that the questions | |
| themselves can't help but give away some surprises, so read with | |
| caution. | |
Sample question: Agh! I've been bitten by a rattlesnake! What do I do?
| |
| Sample hint #1: Despite what you may have learned as a kid, | |
| cutting an X across the wound and sucking out the venom isn't likely to | |
| help. | |

Sample hint #2: Luckily, you have a much better
| solution at hand. | |

Sample hint #3: Check your inventory -- might the
| first-aid kit offer anything? | |

Flat-out answer: DRINK ANTIVENOM.
| | |
Prologue and Part One
| |
How do I get into the cabin?
| |
| Check your inventory. | |

See anything that might open a cabin door?

UNLOCK CABIN DOOR WITH CABIN KEY

What am I supposed to do with the nightstand?
| |
| Have you tried your key in the lock? | |

No luck, huh? Well, you're super-strong -- maybe you could pull the
| drawer open? | |

Oh, forget it. Just give the thing a solid whack.

HIT NIGHTSTAND | |
| | |
Okay then, what about the huge steel door?
| |
| Well, you've tried the key, right? | |

And your patented nightstand-opening method?

Jumping up on the roof would wreck all the equipment
| up there, so that's probably out. | |

If you punch the door enough, Emily may offer a
| suggestion. | |

But if you don't find that enough, try something
| stronger than a punch, or something that puts the opposite sort of | |
| strain on the door. | |

KICK DOOR or PULL DOOR | |
| | |
How do I get in to where the telescope is?
| |
| Looks like that curtain of light is blocking your | |
| way. | |

You'll have to pass through it somehow.

Though that won't really get you to the telescope.

You can't get to the telescope. See the next question.
| | |
What am I supposed to do with this coruscating curtain of
| light?
| |
| Perhaps a bit of experimentation is in order. | |

What happens if you throw something at the curtain?

What happens if you ask Emily to fog or blast the
| curtain? | |

What happens if you touch the curtain?

It looks like the curtain may be some sort of
| teleportation device -- perhaps it can lead you to the next step in your | |
| investigation? | |

Of course, it'd probably be a good idea to investigate
| the observatory before you go. | |

ENTER CURTAIN, then respond however you'd like to
| Emily, if you've got MENUS ON. | |
| | |
Part Two
| |
Great. Now what?
| |
| Time to turn to that chapter in the superhero | |
| manual titled "So You've Found Yourself In a Prison Cell", alien | |
| forcefield section. | |

Try testing the field a bit.

Touch it, punch it, kick it, throw something at it.
| What do you notice? | |

The energy field seems to repel kinetic energy with
| equal force to the energy applied. | |

Now take note of where the field isn't.

Might stomping help? | |

Okay, but what if you could use the field to multiply
| your power? | |

Anything leap to mind? | |

JUMP. Thrice. | |
| | |
Part Three
| |
How do I get out of this hole?
| |
| Come on, do you really need a hint about | |
| that? | |

Try EXIT. Or OUT. Or GET OUT.

Or JUMP. Or U. | |

Sheesh. | |
| | |
How do I fix this broken tube?
| |
| Well, if you were really really REALLY | |
| strong, you could lift it up and put it back on its base. | |

As it turns out, you're just really really
| strong. So you can't do that. | |

And anyway, even if you put it back on its base, it's
| not like the machinery would repair itself. | |

Looks like that tube's going to stay broken for a
| while. | |
| | |
What's the deal with these penguins?
| |
| They don't seem to be quite identical to normal | |
| penguins, do they? | |

It appears their intelligence has been enhanced
| considerably. | |

In any case, they're smart enough to stay away from
| the being that's just plummeted out of the sky. | |

So you can't really interact with them much, though
| you can observe them. | |
| | |
I'm stuck. How do I get out of the Arctic area?
| |
| Well, what happens if you walk in a particular | |
| direction? | |

It would "take you ages to get anywhere on foot...
| there's got to be an easier way." | |

Perhaps a view from above?

You can't climb the broken tube. How about JUMPing?

"At the zenith of your leap, you can see four distinct
| areas, bordering the Arctic zone at the north, south, east, and west." | |

How to get there? | |

WWHD? (What Would the Hulk Do?)

Combine the solution to the last couple of puzzles
| with your desire to go a particular direction. | |

JUMP <direction>. For instance, if you wanted to go
| north, JUMP NORTH. | |

Now that you've done it once, regular directional
| commands will work to get around the sphere. | |
| | |
How can I communicate with the squid?
| |
| Well, it seems like an awfully intelligent squid. | |

But it's still just a squid.

This culture gap is doomed to remain unbridged.

Though you're welcome to give things to it, draw marks
| in the sand, or even try to talk to it. | |
| | |
I'm in the Waterlock, but the crimson touchplate isn't working.
| |
| Maybe it needs to be dry first. | |

A waterlock is just like an airlock.

Drain the water. | |

TOUCH TURQUOISE. Then TOUCH CRIMSON.
| | |
What do all these touchplates in the crimson bubble do?
| |
| Does their iconography remind you of anything? | |

Try touching the one with the waves.

Getting the picture? | |

The snowflake one doesn't work because your fall into
| the arctic area destroyed a bunch of stuff. | |

The rest should work fine.

Initially, anyway. | |
| | |
Oh dear. I appear to be trapped in a sandy bubble on an alien planet.
| |
| That is a bit of a pickle, alright. Perhaps | |
| examining things would help. | |

Particularly the sand.

Looks like there's a gap between the dome's wall and
| its floor. | |

Unfortunately, the gap is only six inches high. If you
| were Ant-Man, you could probably get out, but your power is | |
| super-strength, not shrinkage. | |

Maybe you could increase the size of that gap.

WIDEN GAP. Or OPEN GAP. | |

Or LIFT DOME. Or PUSH DOME.
| | |
What's the purpose of this very very thin sponge?
| |
| Mopping up a very very small puddle? | |

There's something written on it.

Perhaps it's a sort of alien Post-It note?

Reading, perhaps, "OUT OF ORDER", since the touchplate
| it's stuck to doesn't work? | |

Maybe it's spongy because the culture that developed
| it does some of its communicating via scent? | |

In any case, it's not going to help you solve any
| puzzles. | |
| | |
Can I do anything worthwhile with this viewscope?
| |
| Well, you could LOOK THROUGH it. | |

Of course, you'd have to get on its level first.

Maybe climbing the pole would get you there.

Or at least offer a more sensible suggestion. So CLIMB
| PLATFORM, then LOOK THROUGH VIEWSCOPE. | |

While you're at it, take a close look at the
| viewscope. | |

Specifically, its lens.

If the lens is "currently screwed onto the viewscope",
| perhaps it could be unscrewed as well? | |

UNSCREW LENS. It might come in handy somewhere.
| | |
What in the world is this white cylinder?
| |
| Try pushing the button. | |

Apparently it emits sounds, which may or may not be
| comprehensible to you. | |

If they aren't, have you come across anything that
| might possibly function as a translation device? | |

Maybe, perhaps, in the observatory?

Say, the desk drawer? | |

Remember, if you were wearing the headset when you
| were falling towards the water, you stashed it in your suit so it | |
| wouldn't get water damaged. | |

WEAR HEADSET. Then PUSH BUTTON until you've heard all
| the messages. | |

If you left the headset back in the observatory and
| don't want to restore, don't worry -- the messages help explain some | |
| background information, but aren't vital to finishing the game. | |
| | |
I'm being told I need to "orient myself" -- how do I do that?
| |
| Just out of curiosity, have you tried ORIENT | |
| MYSELF? | |

Yeah, I know it doesn't work. I was just curious
| whether you'd tried it. So all the trees are obscuring your sense of | |
| direction. | |

What would be great would be if you could see through
| the trees to get a sense of where the other areas are. | |

Or maybe see past them. Or... over them?

JUMP. | |
| | |
How do I get to the top of this tower in the Forest?
| |
| Don't reveal any more hints in this question until | |
| you've seen the viewscope. | |

Okay, have you seen the viewscope yet?

Then you've been to the top of the tower.

The Forest Dome is at the top of the Forest tower.

The way you got there is the only way to get there.
| | |
Is this cactus useful for anything?
| |
| If you were trapped in the desert, you could split | |
| it open and drink its moisture. | |

Happily, that won't be necessary.

It is Y-shaped. | |

Maybe you could wedge something into it.

Might be useful. | |
| | |
Can I get into any of these domes?
| |
| Sure. | |

But not from directly outside them.
| | |
I want to talk to the cat-people!
| |
| But you don't speak their language. | |

They seem more intelligent than the average cat, but
| still pretty tribal. | |

Also like cats, they can be rather skittish.

So your interactions with them will proabably be
| minimal. | |
| | |
Slugs. Why did it have to be slugs? How can I get rid of these slimy things?
| |
| This is definitely the most complex puzzle in the | |
| game. | |

Don't reveal any more hints until you've been to all
| six areas on the sphere, and the interior of all five domes. | |

Check out that canister next to the slugs.

What's that stuff inside?

Looks like salt. Maybe you could taste it to make
| sure. | |

Or maybe instead, you could pour it on the slugs.

Insufficient quantity, but on the right track. Now
| where could you obtain more salt? | |

There's something on the sphere that contains a
| massive quantity of salt. | |

The ocean. But how do you extract the salt from it?

Boiling would do the trick. Is there someplace where
| there's a great deal of heat available? | |

The desert! But how to get the water there?

You're going to need a lot of salt water to get the
| quantity of salt you'll need. Have anything that could carry a lot of | |
| water? | |

Remember, you shouldn't be looking at these hints
| unless you've visited all the domes. | |

Particularly the desert dome. If you've gotten out,
| you'll have a great water container. If you haven't, see the question | |
| above entitled "Oh dear. I appear to be trapped in a sandy bubble on an | |
| alien planet." | |

So you'll want to fill the bowl with water. You can
| just pick it up and take it with you to the ocean. It'll stay on the | |
| surface when you fall in, and then you can use the beige touchplate to | |
| return to the surface and retrieve it. Fill it and return to the desert. | |

Of course, if you try to return via a forested path,
| the bowl will upend as it falls through the trees. So you'll probably | |
| want to go via the Arctic or the Veldt. | |

When you get back to the desert, drop the bowl.

Still no boiling, eh? Perhaps you need something to
| intensify the heat of the sun. | |

Seen anything that can intensify a beam of light?

If your thoughts aren't coming into focus about this,
| check the question entitled "Can I do anything worthwhile with this | |
| viewscope?" | |

So where can you set the lens so that it will properly
| focus the sunlight? | |

PUT LENS IN CACTUS. | |

Then you'll need to either wait a while (a fairly
| unpleasant experience in the desert) or leave and come back. | |

When you do, voila! Sea salt! Just one more thing to
| do: figure out how to get it to the rainforest. | |

Trying to keep it in the bowl and take it there will
| only result in spilled salt. Very bad luck, especially when you have to | |
| do so much work to get more to throw over your shoulder. | |

Seen anything that's tailor-made for carrying salt?

FILL CANISTER WITH SALT. Then bring it to the
| rainforest and POUR SALT ON SLUGS. | |
| | |
Part Four
| |
What's the purpose of this pink touchplate?
| |
| Why not touch it and find out? | |

If Emily accompanied you through the curtain in Part
| One, she'll be in the cell. If not, the cell will be empty. | |
| | |
Eek! Security robots! What do I do? What do I do?
| |
| Time for some superheroics! | |

There are lots and lots of ways to handle the robots.

For instance, you could whomp them yourself with a
| KILL ROBOTS or BREAK ROBOTS. | |

Or you could have Emily do it (if she's with you) by
| suggesting EM, BLAST ROBOTS. | |

Or, for a less violent and more comical approach, try
| EM, FOG ROBOTS. | |

If you're still in the intersection, you could have
| Emily fog up the whole place by saying EM, FOG. ENTER NICHE will do the | |
| trick here as well. | |

In the words of Homer Simpson: "Die, bad robots! Die!"
| | |
I just got teleported somewhere! What do I do now?
| |
| Wait for Earth And Sky: Episode 3. | |

It'll be out in about a year.

Sorry. | |

Hope you enjoyed this one, though!
| | |
The Last Resort
| |
Can I please just have a walkthrough? Please?
| |
| Oh, alright. Below is a walkthrough captured from a | |
| session I did with the game. It takes a few detours, and may miss a few | |
| things, but it'll get you through the game. But beware -- unlike the | |
| rest of this hint file, there isn't whitespace between the lines, so you | |
| may end up revealing more than you wanted to. But then again, if you're | |
| looking at the walkthrough, you're probably past the point of caring | |
| about that. | |
