| The Computer Game | |
| INSTRUCTIONS | |
| December 2053 | |
| Cold night in the neon jungle. Paranoia. Steel girders. And a flash of mood | |
| music. Crowds. | |
| Punks walk past in chrome and Chameleoid leather. Silver-lensed sunglasses. | |
| And Clayman steps out. He's you. And (for the purposes of this game), you | |
| are him. A tough, streetsmart privateer, more people have died at his hands | |
| than braincells at a "Silver" party. | |
| Mr Dansker of New Sydney Corporation needs Dan Clayman for a mission. | |
| A mission to cripple the computer network of the Federal Military Intel- | |
| ligence, the spooky, secretive government agents in black scarves. | |
| No guns will be provided, nor will the (no doubt illegal) software required | |
| to bugger up the FMI's networks. | |
| All you have is your designer Ringshirt(TM) and a crappy "Cory-600" pistol. | |
| Privateers have all the fun... | |
| Thanks for trying out VOID:CORPORATION:THE COMPUTER GAME. It is a text | |
| adventure in the old Infocom Style, in which you, Clayman, are to somehow get | |
| into the FMI building and destroy their network. The FMI has almost certainly | |
| found out about it by now, and has assassins and agents on your ass. | |
| To move around, type in a direction eg NORTHWEST. | |
| To GET anything, type GET (object). | |
| To unlock anything, type INSERT (object) | |
| To talk to anyone, type TALK TO (person) | |
| You can also PUSH, WEAR, SHOOT, TURN, OPEN, EAT and LOOK AT...as well as | |
| many other actions. Just type what you want to do in plain English. Some- | |
| times the system will not understand what you say. Just think "Am I using | |
| the simplest possible phrase to explain what I want to do?" If you aren't, | |
| then do so. If you are, maybe it isn't possible. | |
| Often you will come across enemies. These have different temperaments. One | |
| might kill you straight off. Others may wait awhile. Just find the right | |
| weapon to shoot them. | |
| Sometimes you will come across friendly people. You can talk to these. Ask | |
| them about things like this: ASK (person) ABOUT FMI. | |
| This game is rather short. Originally intended to be about five times | |
| longer, the game was cut short rather suddenly due to the fact that it was | |
| (for whatever reason) written during my Higher School Certificate examination | |
| period... | |
| The world in which this game is set is not based on anything in particular. | |
| Actually it is an RPG-world that I used some years ago, and the game makes | |
| constant references to a larger world. | |
| Basically I began with a sort of Star-Wars type universe, with a war between | |
| the Federation, containing Earth, the Moon and Mars; and their enemies the | |
| Secessionists, who live in the Asteroid Belt. | |
| After getting into cyberpunk, my RPGs began to concentrate on what was hap- | |
| pening behind the scenes on Earth, with New Sydney Corporation, which sells | |
| advanced VR material, balanced by New Beijing Corporation, which sells gen- | |
| etically engineered stuff. All this takes place during the Space War (2051 - | |
| 2055 AD). | |
| If you think this is ridiculous, you're not far wrong. I made up this stuff | |
| between the ages of 13 and 17, so it's slightly fanatical... | |
| But anyway, have a nice time. | |
| "In the modern world it is more permissible to shoot your mother than to | |
| shoot a tiger" | |
